Red Rising is the debut, best-seller novel by Pierce Brown, which entirely lives up to the hype.
What I like ✅ the plotline is well-paced, hitting all the right beats at the right moments
✅ characters and their motivations are strong and well set-up
✅ the social structure the world hooks you in, posing interesting questions around race, class and economics
✅ Red Rising is like the Hunger Game's more mature, cooler, smarter older sibling
What I didn't like ✖ the plot and its twists are predictable at times
✖ melodramatic in places, particularly when the dialogue reads like a script, rather than natural conversation
✖ Darrow needed a few more flaws which would make him more believable as a character, bordering on a Gary-Stu Rating 4.5/5🌟 Verdict
