What I didn't like ✖ ...they both had a similar skill set and characteristics; it would have served the story better to have more diverse characters . ✖ the characters were all a bit "meh"; a bit too stock-standard and unmemorable (the jaded detective, the idealistic star captain); Miller's motivations aren't convincing . ✖ it's a space opera for people who don't like space operas—lack of world-building makes the world feel not-too-memorable . ✖ at the end, the book just felt flat —a "meh" ending, characters which didn't live up to promise .
